Photo Dovecote

At the entrance of the village stands the dovecote or "dovecote on tower which was reserved for the lords or the rich!

Pigeons were bred for their droppings which served as fertilizer, more than for their flesh, and as they damaged the crops, they were reserved for the rich.
"The round pigeon loft:
Situated near country houses or isolated on
the plateau, they may date from the 17th or 18th century. Type
cylindrical, the tower is often squat, wider at the base
than at the top, which can be several stories high. The roof
consists of one or two slopes. There are often
windshield." (A la découverte des cabanons et pigeonniers du plateau de Valensole, 2014, Parc Naturel Régional du Verdon)
