Bridge of la Serre, called "bridge of Madam"

LA MARTRE

Photo Bridge of la Serre, called

The bridge of the Serre, called as "Bridge of Madam" in La Martre. A very pretty single-arched bridge built over the Artuby in the XVIIIth century. It is located in a magnificent setting. Pass the old sawmill and go to the unexpected encounter of the Artuby Gorges

It is known as the "Pont de Madame", probably in memory of Thérèse Isnard de la Martre, the local chatelaine, who financed its construction in 1735 to replace an older bridge on the royal road from Draguignan to Castellane.

Situated at the foot of the village, it is set in a magnificent landscape, between the turquoise waters of the Artuby and the bright green of the surrounding fields and hills. It's part of a pleasant hiking trail from the village of La Martre that takes you to the foothills of the Brouis mountain.
