Sundials of great simplicity
The sundials that adorn the facades of the houses of the
Verdon have long been useful to everyday life,
before the clockwork spread. These dials painted in
lime or engraved in stone or mortar do not contain
not always a currency. Unlike alpine dials
or transalpine, their decoration is often limited to the frame or the calligraphy.

This sundial is located on a facade built in a limestone structure that has been left visible. The sundial was made on a rectangular painting covered with plaster, whitewashed with whitewash. The horseshoe-shaped sundial is painted in light yellow while the frame is in red ochre. The sgraffito technique was used to mark the cartouche "nec pluribus impar 1823" as well as the hours in Roman numerals. The stylus in the centre of the sun clock marks the hours by casting its shadow over the numerals. (NRPV)
