Chapel of Sainte-Anne

LE BOURGUET

Photo Chapel of Sainte-Anne

The exact date of construction of this chapel is not known. Some people think it dates back to the 11th century, others see it as a 12th century building.

This beautiful Romanesque building, which depended on a small annex of the Templars located in Comps at a dozen kilometers, is 4.90 m high and 15.50 m long. Built in large, very regular apparatus, it presents an apse in a semi-dome and a portal in broken arch surmounted by a cruciform bay. Its vaulted nave in broken cradle is divided into 3 bays by transverse arches received by pilasters against the side walls. The semicircular choir is vaulted in daytime. This chapel is especially remarkable for the beautiful implementation of its regular stones in soft colors, coming from a local schist. Note the use of rusticated stones with corner chains, as well as the elegant narrow round-arched windows on the south façade, characteristic of its age.
